Tiptree Medlar Jelly ~ 340 g
Tiptree Medlar Jelly is for adventurers. Medlars are a rare and unlikely fruit nowadays. A century ago you might find yourself enjoying a glass of port, hazelnuts and a few medlars. The texture are like a chestnut puree and the flavour distinctive. The ripe fruit, which are nut-brown and leathery, can only be eaten raw after ‘bletting’. Bletting is straight from the French word, blettir, to make soft. Although not native they can still be found growing wild in hedgerows and woodland. Their large white flowers as fine as any fruit blossom in spring. Medlar Jelly has a very short production run and only a few jars are produced each year.
